Linda
Garwol
From the time she was a young girl,
Linda Garwol was a gardener, working with her neighbor in his garden,
learning about plants and soil.
Today, as a Master Gardener, Linda promotes gardening wherever
she goes. To become a Master Gardener, Linda took Master Gardener classes,
but also must do many hours of volunteer work to maintain Master Gardener
status. Master Gardeners also present community gardening classes for
the public on Saturdays in the spring. You might also see her at the Master
Gardeners booth at the Erie County Fair, answering gardening questions.
She is the treasurer of the steering committee for the Master Gardeners
of WNY since 2007.
Since 2001, under the direction of Sally Cunningham, Linda
coordinates volunteers for the Niagara Square Gardens. It’s a big
task to accomplish with very minimal funding. Well in advance of planting
time, much thought and planning must be done to ensure a beautiful Niagara
Square garden.
She is on the steering committee for Buffalo in Bloom.
Buffalo in Bloom encourages residents to make an attempt at a front garden.
Linda coordinates “Scouts” to visit Buffalo gardens and “bloom”
the ones where an effort was made at gardening.
She is President of the Main St. Garden Group, a block
club formed to maintain the DOT plantings on Main St. between Bailey and
Hertel. The tasks are endless, yet she gives her own time and energy to
beautifying Buffalo.
In addition to her volunteer work, Linda serves severely
speech and language impaired children as a Speech Language Pathologist.
She resides in Tonawanda but loves Buffalo. She makes this city a place
to be proud of and a better, more beautiful place to live!
